We are pleased to present the work of two artists showing for the first time at Fetherston Gallery.
Marilyn Jonassen is a Seattle resident who shows us an impressive body of work that consists of abstract designs worked in the encaustic wax process. She uses geometric figures as a point of focus but imbues each piece with rich textural and multilayered features. Much of her work is done with a bright and bold color palette but other pieces are fashioned in more quiet and subdued tones. All of her work, however, reveals an underlying restraint and control that reveals her mastery of the encaustic process and her powerful artistic vision.
Annie Duffy is a well-known Alaska artist who is showing her sculptural pieces and wall hangings at Fetherston Gallery. She works with delicate materials such as paper and thread and cotton as well as acrylics and touches of wood to produce small works of sculpture with assertive and complex shapes yet a delicate and ethereal presence. Her sculptures are works in white at first glance, but upon closer examination, they reveal strong surface elements comprised of threads and paper that echo the strong organic shapes of the piece but do not detract from their inherent luminosity and otherworldly suggestions. Duffy also included two companion wall pieces, both fabricated from paper, thread, wood, and acrylic. They are subtle in palette but substantial in their visual impact and presentation.
